I actually prefer a well figured doublet to a triplet for visual. At f8 the color correction should be excellent. I will put down the $500 deposit and get on the list. Feathertouch focuser is a must.

I sent an email, but no reply yet. I did ask about upgrading to a feather touch and would also pay extra for that blue color if possible.

Vic / Stellarvue just sent out the info on ordering a SVX127D to people on the notification list. Looks like the 3" Feather Touch focuser is standard. Not an inexpensive telescope, but it will likely provide good performance and value, especially for visual use.

I'm not so sure that a 5" FPL-53 (or FCD100) + Lanthanum doublet would have excellent color correction at f/8. My very basic calcs show that the out-of-focus light caused by the color error (LCE/F ~ 1/10000) will be ~20% larger than the Airy disk size. I could be doing something wrong though.

I learned about this offering through an email from SV as well, but I was not surprised to see the announcement.  If you look at the Certified Pre-owned section of the SV website you will see the SVX125D, which is a scope that SV offered a year or two back in pretty limited quantities.  When the CPO model was listed a few months back I jumped on it and have had it out a number of times.  It has been a great scope with both an excellent focuser and very nice optics as well.  It goes a good bit deeper than my 92mm Stowaway, and it is lighter and a little easier to handle than my TEC140.

I suspect that the SVX127D is a slightly tweaked version (by 2mm, and addition of a 3-inch focuser as compared to a 2.5 inch version, who knows what else) of what I got.  I have seen a couple other SVX125Ds for sale on the used market in the past six months or so.  The SVX125D uses FCD100 glass along with a Lanthanum element, and at 975mm focal length is F7.8.

I will be very interested to see how long SV can stick with the $2495 price, including the case at least initially.  I would consider this a bargain given the promise of very well figured optics, particularly for visual use.

The $2495 price did not last long. It's listed at $3495 but at least you get the Feather Touch. $2495 did not seem right. That's the price of the 4" with the feather Touch.

Totally confused, after seeing the newsletter and now this.

Yikes! At 3500 smackers, purchase is a more daunting prospect. I was really counting on 2500. Sigh. And the case is extra.

The Astro Tech 125 doublet with 0.95 Strehl is half that price.

The feathertouch is $1000 alone.  So essentially it is that price, but they didnt have enough of the stock focusers or something.

I put my money where my mouth is.  Order placed.

This is essentially a facelift on the FS128, just with better mechanics (sliding dew shield), focuser, ect.  That just sold with a feathertouch for $4000 US.

So in my opinion, the pricing is fair for a brand new scope like this.

As the adage goes around here....you pay (a lot) for that last little bit of performance.

No if you swap out the standard to a feathertouch (on the rest of their range) you pay an additional $500.

[And now in the larger scopes the standard focuser is no longer an option. It's still on the 102's]

So what happed to the $2495 and get a free case included? Link now says $3495 and no mention of the bonus case.  I'm confused too. Seems the original deal "evaporated" .  Definitely a lack of clarity as to what was/is offered.  All set to order the $2495 plus bonus special,  but now not so sure of what is happening  maybe a call to SV when I'm back home next week.  --Also confused--

I'm going to ask Vic what happened. I'm still getting the 5" but the notice clearly stated the lower price and the free case. The case is about $200 so I plan to hold him to his offer.

You are correct. A 3" Feather Touch is around $1,000. If the quality of the 5" is as Vic says it will be then $3,495 is a very good price. I watched the YouTube video on his lens manufacturing and read his article on the types of glass being used this year. I'm sold. The 6 month wait is going to be tough though.

I think I'm going to hold off on this scope and wait. I'm sure it will be a good one, but at $3500 I may try Tak and their Mewlon 210 to compliment my 90mm triplet or the TSA-120N.

Stellarvue is a fine company. I have an older triplet and am looking forward to this new wonderful SVX127 doublet.

I’m trusting Vic will put out a true apo.  Spurious chromatic aberration, at that price, would be disappointing!

With my limited experience with SV, I have not been disappointed with anything yet. Three refractors, M2C mount and amazing customer service.
