I came across this pdf from Bresser from last year that discusses a 12" variant offered, as well as the standard 10" etc:

Has anyone heard about this?

 

The major difference (other than the size) seems to be with the OTA

 

10": "Tube made of metal with adjustable brackets and altitude wheels made of aluminium.."

12": "GRP tube with adjustable tube clamp and aluminum altitude bearings.."

 

Would be happy to hear more about this 12" Dob! How does GRP material compare to metal?

It's a shame that the manufacturers don't add a dual-speed focuser as standard when stepping up to 10" or 12".  Apertura does, but not aware of any others.

You can get an upgrade kit for the Bresser (First Light) focusers to make them dual speed. Not cheap, but worth it.

None of the Bressers have 2 speed focusers, I have 8" & 10" ones.

Bresser confirmed today that they are definitely working on a 12" model, due out in latter part of this year

I got the 2 speed upgrade for mine, definitely recommend it.

I also just upgraded the eyepiece clamp. And for the hexfoc focused you need a different part. Baader had one specifically for this focused because it uses the M68 thread size, but the thread pitch is a non standard. Default for the M68 size is 1/mm, but the hexfoc uses 0.75.

I considered the direct click lock attachment, but ended up getting the adapter ring and their short 2”visual back to allow a shorter focused to help with binoviewers. The Baader visual back is much nicer than the stock one.

I have a click lock extension tube I use with eyepieces.

Thanks! There are indeed two Bresser/ES 2" clamps in the Baader catalogue! The Hexafoc is the right one for the Bresser Messier/ES First Light 10" Dobsonian... and the 12" should get the same focuser, but double check!
