I have long used a D5300 as my primary astro camera, but recently Ive decided to change it up and use a D3400 Ive had a few years that I used for IR photography. Im aware there isnt much love for the D3400 vs the D5300 due to lack of features, but using a laptop for capture control I cant tell any difference. Also, since they both share the same sensor, performance is essentially the same. As a final note, the D3400 is substantially lighter, not that my EQ6R-Pro is going to notice.
