Hello,

I'm planning to buy a 200-250 mm lens for doing astrophotography with my trusty autoguided Vixen GP.  My camera is a Canon T3i modified.  Bortle sky: 3

What of the three options would you choose for the task and why your election?

REDCAT:  250mm f/4.9.  Petzval design but some reports of a slight coma in the corners.

Askar ACL200: 200 mm f/4.  Sextuplet design in 3 groups.  Very hard to find documentation or reviews of this lens.

Canon 200 f/2.8.  Coma in the corners but very high speed.

What's your choice?

Regards

i'm leaning towards and askar 400 myself and maybe their .7x reducer.  I don't like the barrel focuser on redcat (hard to run reliably remote) and Canon 200 is fast but painful and weird to connect to AP cameras.

fyi..Favourable review of the RedCat 51LX in Sky and Telescope, March 2021 edition, out now. Direct comparison with the Canon 200/f2.8.

Great Byron and Simcal.  I've just bought Sky and Telescope for your recommendation and mechanical and optically wins the Redcat.  It would be interesting a side by side comparison with the Askar ACL200.

I had both the redcat (original version) and the Askar ACL200.  The Askar performed much better throughout a full frame than the redcat.

How about the Sharpstar 61EDPH with f/4.5 reducer? Six elements in total.
