I am looking at upgrading from a Celestron CG5 to a Sky-Watcher EQ-6. Does anyone know when the current EQ-6 model was released and when/might a newer EQ-6 model might be released? I am trying not to buy a new mount and have the newer model come out a month later.

Thanks!

Don't worry about it.  The EQ6-R has been an excellent mount for many people.  The chances that a new version would be a significant improvement are just about zero.

If they knocked 10 pounds off of it, that would be different.  The chances that that will happen are less than zero.  <smile>

The EQ6-R was released around 2017/2018 time frame. We have no plans to release a new version currently as this mount is still too new.

They did recently (last 2-3 months) update some of the electronics, particularly the Prolific chipset.  I can't imagine that they would do that if they were intending to discontinue the model.

Even if they did... it's still awesome!
