Has anyone had this problem before? I bought the iOptron 2" tripod that claimed to be compatible with the SkyGuider Pro, but it only came with an unthreaded stud that is too big and not removeable. Seems like a mismatch. ???

Return it.  The center rod should be threaded.

The rods bottom is threaded, is it upside down?

Chanrobi, I thought the same thing, however that thread size is too large too. :(

Check to see if there is an adapter to screw on the thread stud. When I had a Sky Guilder in the package I recall there was ID to OD adapter. Also look to see if the mounts female thread doesn't unscrew to a larger size. That's all I got...

Another example where the lack of standardization is a pain.

Looks like they sent the wrong one.  This Tripod lacks the center pin and is spec'd as compatible with the Skyguider Pro.

FYI—The tripod you linked does have a center bolt with 3/8 thread (according to the tech specs), and the off center alignment peg would need to be removed for the SkyGuider.  I like the weasel wording in the listing though—“This tripod may fit with the following mounts”

As it says in the link this is for a ZEQ or CEM mount.  I have a CEM 25 and from what I can see of my tripod I don't see any way you can fit a Sky Guider onto it.   I use a Manfrotto tripod for my Sky Guider.

Have you contacted the seller or iOptron?  I would be interested to know if it is a defective product (too large/non-threaded bolt), or simply a tripod meant for another mount.

As a newbie to this field, I am amazed at how careful one must be in selecting gear that will work together—even from the same vendor.

Looks like this is one for iOptron to answer.  Thanks for the info.
