Is there any software - not necessarily free- but at least less expensive than Registar that will register and scale images taken with different cameras and telescopes as well as mono and colour images ?

 

going crazy trying to do it manually in Photoshop

It's not free (but not expensive either) but I recommend trying Astro Pixel Processor (it has 30 day free trial).

Hm, I see it's about same price, but there's also yearly subscription model.

And it's also very good on mosaics.

Yes APP does what Registar does apparently - and is not a one trick pony- but is even more expensive !

We are willing to spend so much on astro equipment, but not on software .

 

Maybe DSS can do it if there's not too much scale difference.

There's always PixInsight but it isn't cheaper as well. DSS will not work if you really need to combine images of different scales.

So the choices are Registar- no longer being actively developed I think?- which will only do one thing- or complete packages APP or PI- but with the associated learning curve

Did you check if Siril does support scaling?  I know it does triangle-matching, but don't know about the limits....

I hadn’t considered SIRIL - I do actually use it to stack DSLR data regularly, but haven’t tried it with my cooled cameras. Will check it out, thanks
