That Bushnell III OTA did not come on that mount (probably from a Tasco 7TE). That type of finder, those plastic focus knobs, sticker badge, and especially the stripes on the dewshield all scream it's way too new for it. It should have a mount similar to a Towa Sears or Jason.

Here's what a model #78-5700 should look like:

Don't you love it when they present lots of good pictures, but not of the front optics?

The hits keep coming from the Pacific Northwest

Another  sweet  classic from the classic refractors coffee tableman

Incidentally,   the seller includes a pic of this fine Nippon-Kogaku  next to a typical classic refractor    and   it does not look at all like your typical 60ish mm refractor  if this is only 65 mm I am going to see the eye doctor

That is a great deal for the Nippon.  Normally that is the fixer upper price for one of these.  Looking back in time these were going for well over $1000.   These are hard times we are in.  The optics in these are top notch.  I have an 80mm Nikon that looks about the same size as a 102mm Unitron.

If you have been looking for a copy of the classic Sam Brown's "All About Telescopes" but someone else always beats you to it, then this auction might interest you: https://www.ebay.com...OD/274694017486

I am fairly certain that it will be waiting for you when decide to pull the trigger.

Those are beautiful scopes! Not long ago that one would have gone for close to twice what he’s asking. I lusted after one for a long time. I hope some here get it. Just remember, at that low, low asking price you can well afford the inflated shipping charges.

I believe I've seen just the OTAs go for close to that. I don't think it's just related to todays market. Other than maybe the Manon, Keith has been selling them all on the low side. He's sold several telescopes lately so I hope he's OK and doesn't regret selling this one, as they are fairly rare.

Super good price

last one that sold was reduced to just under 1200

there was some cool thing with the prism I am just now reading about

then of course just over 8  years ago  there was a guy who had more than one  of them

here he was talking to a guy who found one in a garage sale

imagine finding one of these in a garage sale?

Very nice scope Glenn!

I've heard there's some nut case in the Pacific Northwest who is said to be quite fond of these telescopes... whistling.gif

I'll bet he's okay but thinking the same thing I'm thinking: I'm not getting any younger and have a bunch of classic scopes I'm not using or going to use any more that are just sitting here. Tascos, Unitrons--I'm dreading shipping them and am getting to the point I'm just going to pay it forward and give them to my local astronomy club to distribute once outreach starts up again. Time to lighten the load.

Hi Thom! Good to hear from you. I was just thinking of you a little earlier and hoping you and yours were doing well this crazy winter. Been there, done that! The load is lightened here and I won’t be buying anymore. It feels good.

PS, my daughter sent me video of your PDX snow last week. That was a pretty good storm for you all.
