Some clubs are going virtual because of COVID. Some are basically closed.

Hi Jon,
I'm out in the hills between Driftwood and Wimberley. There are no clubs in this immediate area that I'm aware of but the Austin Astronomical Society has a nice website. I was a member of AAS many years ago, when I lived in Austin, but have not attended a meeting in decades. I don't drive into Austin unless it is absolutely necessary :>).

I don't blame ya! I'm far south austin just to get away from what the city is becoming . . . My family has some land deep in the Apalachian mountains in NC with no light pollution, and I'm very, very close to just moving there!

I bought 5+ acres in the Ouachita Mountains in Oklahoma last year (Bortle 2). If I wasn't so old (84) I'd move in a New York minute :>). As it is, I left my camper up there (it's adjacent to my daughter's home) so I can go portable easily.

Oh I plan on getting up there at latest when I retire. . . Ideally sooner!

I’m north of the city. Pretty much all the clubs around have gone into hiding. I have also been looking for some good spots locally that at least are away from direct lighting. I am planning to make a trip here this spring. https://tpwd.texas.g...uth-llano-river

That'll certainly be far enough away from lights. I was thinking of just heading out to Hamilton Pool area soon. I think that's where the local Austin Astronomical Society does stargazing events.
If there are others that want to do a covid safe trip like that, I'd be in. Outdoors, rigs far enough apart, masks when in close proximity.

Thanks for the link. I had not come across that TPWD site yet. Probably the closest/safest Bortle 3 area to me, so much appreciated.
