I hope this post follows the rules for posting here on Cloudy Nights, if not my apologies.

There is a bundle of PDF format astronomy books available on the Humble Bundle website, specifically the bundle "Astronomy, Black Holes, and The Universe" at:

https://www.humblebu...pool_bookbundle

Part of the purchase price goes to support SFWA (Science Fiction Writers of America).

The top bundle, at a cost of $18.00, includes the following:

The Tai Chi in Star Formation
The Universe Untangled
Of Clocks and Time
Electrostatic Phenomena On Planetary Surfaces
Spiral Structures In Galaxies
The Globular Star Clusters of the Andromeda Galaxy
Neutron Stars, Black Holes and Gravitational Waves
Searching for Habital World's
The Structure and Evolution off Single Stars
The Most Interesting Galaxies in the Universe
Elementary Cosmology
The Origins of Life
Visual Astronomy
An Introduction to Planetary Nebula
Comets in the 21st Century
The Ringed Planet

These are all ebooks, not hard copy, but should work really well on a tablet, e-reader, or PC for reading or reference.

I hope this is of use to everyone.

Thanks for the heads up! I purchased the complete bundle. I'm not sure if I'll read all of the books but a few did look interesting to me. For the price, what the heck?... Might as well get all of them.  smile.gif

In addition to PDF, the books are also available for download in EPUB format.  I'll use the Calibre software to convert the EPUB format to MOBI for use on my Kindle Paperwhite. I've done this before with some EPUB format ebooks and it works very well.  IMO, the MOBI format works much better on the Kindle e-readers than reading a PDF file.

Well, I guess I'm more paranoid than most.

My thoughts on this are:

If you get these 'e-books' from a "dubious" site, you just gave them your name, address, payment details, credit card info, IP address, etc...

Tiki Tom, in today's connected internet age it pays to be paranoid. I've recently retired from over thirty years if IT work (from DOS to Win10), so I agree with you on the need to be vigilant about where you make your purchases.

I've been purchasing bundles from Humble Bundle for several years without any issues. I have however had to replace my ATM card and VISA card after the businesses where I had shopped with them had gotten hacked.

Hey Cowtau- I remember sitting on the edge waiting for the Win3.1 GUI. Also, luckily I have never had any card problems, but I am vigilant about were my personal info goes & I don't like giving my info to a site that may/ may not be considered 'mainstream'.

I appreciate your sharing this eBook link with everyone and I probably didn't need to post the comments the way I did. But in these uncertain times, better off cautious than not. A buddy of mine, who has never owned a computer, got his identity stolen by a simple phone call.

/End of rant, now back to our regularly scheduled posts...

Thanks, Cowtau, for bringing this to my attention! I downloaded it and most of the books look pretty good.
