Hello Cloudy Nights.

I noticed a rainbow colored distortion in the mirror under one of the retaining clamp/cleats on my C130 reflector.

Is this an indicator of stress or a misalignment condition that should be corrected?

I just don't want to damage the mirror.

Thank you to the content makers on this forum.

Cam.

Cam:

The mirror clips should never touch the mirror. They will not damage the mirror but they will distort it enough to seriously affect the image.

I wouldn't think there is a rainbow color from distortion. You are probably seeing light wear on the coating due to the retaining clip. Even though the clips should be set at zero contact for viewing, there is wear from set up and transport and the occasional flip in use and etc.

That's strange. Perhaps some kind of oil or another source of contamination got on the retaining clip. Did you check to see if it will wipe off?

It will not wipe off with a lens cloth.

That looks like a normal wear/deposit mark from a retaining clip.
