I just received my new ASI294MM, but have barely been able to test it before the clouds attacked. And I have a couple of questions about the binning settings in autofocus and plate solving in SGP.

Since the default mode of the ASI294MM is binning 2x2, is it correct to use that value for autofocus and plate solving or is it better to use binnig1x1?

it makes sense to use Bin 2 for PS and focus due to faster downloads and solves on smaller frame sizes - its what I do with mine

Also I hear that banding is reduced in the 294mm @ 2x2. ?

I autofocus and plate solve with my ASI1600MM 2x2 binned from the default, the default being similar scale to the 2x2 (default) on the 294 (which im delighted to say I just got an email about the dispatch of!)

So when I get the 294 I will be binning at 4x4 (either on camera or in NINA) for autofocus and platesolving with ASTAP.

Happylimpet, if you set the camera to Bin2 , then the standard bin size for that run is 4.63, so binning 2x2 will give you 9.26 which is somewhat similar to the effect you get with the ASI1600mm at 2x2. You don't need to bin at 4x4 to get the same affect.

I use bin 2x2 for plate solving with the ASI294MM Pro in SGP with ASTAP. See screenshot below.
