I observed theta Aur way back in 1991, using an 80/1200 achromatic refractor.

Evening with seeing 10 Pickering.

From my diary:

"Very difficult.

I managed to observe it with the orthoscopic 9mm. The secondary was visible at times because it merged with the first diffraction ring. Much easier with a 125/1500 acro refractor."
