For what its worth I have my Orion 120ST on the Celestron "Heavy Duty" tripod which handles 10 lbs. I just had to set it to a range that would work for astronomy and tighten down the nut with a wrench. But it has held the 120 fine so far I just have to keep a wrench with me in case I need to make adjustments in the field since the slow motion controls have a short range of travel. Not sure how much worse the AZ3 is compared the Celestron Heavy Duty but it could work for a time I guess until the OP could buy a better mount.
