I haven't been able to find this answer anywhere and experimenting in the software has not given me a solution either.

Can I set NINA up to save the image on my Nikon's memory card? When I select the image file path I can see my camera listed, but it won't let me open it up and select any of the folders that are there. I can get it to save the images on my laptop that is running NINA, but that is not the computer that I will be using to process my images. I'm trying to eliminate the step of copying them from my laptop to a thumb drive or external drive and then from there to my desktop where I will process.

I can get this to work through Backyard Nikon, there is an option in that software to save the image on the camera no file path needed. I'm using the trial version of Backyard Nikon because I don't plan to use a DSLR forever and would rather learn NINA and connect it up with SharpCap and PHD2 when I start using my guide camera and scope.

Basically just trying to save some money and not purchase software that I won't need down the road when I get a dedicated astro camera and need to switch to something like NINA then.

Even if you can figure this out (it might be possible depending on whether the DSLR card is mounted as a drive), I don't think you want to do this. This would involve a *double* trip across the USB from your DSLR to computer back to DSLR. It would seem to be easier to plug in a flash drive to your laptop and set NINA to store directly there rather than back to the DSLR.

(Presume you already know this but location for NINA to store images is under options => imaging => image file path)

Why would it be a double trip? Saving on the camera is the image source, why would it go from the camera to the computer and back, rather than just staying on the camera and never going to the computer. At this stage I am only using BYN or NINA as a DSLR controller in case I need longer than 30 second exposures. This is my second time out with my setup and the first was Orion's Nebula which is quite bright and I was able to get my histogram right where I needed it with a 30 second exposure. Anything longer and I have to use a shutter release control or hook it up to a computer. I'm not yet using guiding, plate solving, etc, just simply need to control my camera with a longer than 30 second exposure. I'm expecting my target tonight is going to be a bit darker and need some longer exposures to get my histogram correct, hence I've been practicing with both NINA and BYN this afternoon. I will use BYN tonight and work on getting NINA up and running in the days to come.

I suspect you are saying that NINA is transferring the image to the computer regardless of where I set it to save for other purposes the software might have.

I do like the idea of setting up an external drive or thumb drive on the laptop and having it save there directly thus eliminating the need to transfer it twice.

Thanks for your input.

After every image, NINA is downloading the image from the camera. It is not like using an intervalometer with the camera storing directly to the local flash. AFAIK, there is no way of configuring NINA to *not* download the image from the camera.

Ok, thank you. I will use an external drive to save the files then.
