I would make an offer on this but can't be bothered with shipping charges (USA).

VINTAGE CARL ZEISS JENA C-63/480 LENS ?

Thought it was a copy lens until I remembered the very famous Zeiss telescope series. This is a Telementor 840mm f13.3 cell. Photos don't do a good job of showing any scratches/marks/dents, but no element seperation.

Here's a question- how were these mounted originally? I see an article which talks about dimples for set screws, but I can't see anything like that on here. And the rear end of the cell isn't threaded- only the front.

They were mounted in the t1 tubes from the front and then a set screw held them in place

There is actually a live broadcast going on,  "Explore Alliance Presents - Global Star Party".  If you log in at get to the home page of CN, and if the sound is on, you will hear it.

First two males talking, then a male and a female - about their mom's being from West Virginia, them both growing up in or around Laurel, MD, software / forum problems that needed fixing, so on - office chit-chat, not a subjected broadcast... not getting it now, but it was there when Slidey posted it...

Focuser kind of has that Asahi look, but the styrofoam in the box indicates late 60's.

Believe it or not, despite Amazon Prime lulling Americans into a false sense that shipping is always free, it does cost money to send even a small

object 7000 miles....I quoted a Russian guy $112 shipping for something the other day, he thought it was excessive.  It was using a special courier, I told him UPS wanted $400 and Fedex $475.00.

$25 shipping for a so far low priced possible CZJ C-63/840 from Hungary is hardly bothersome - just won't be a fast transit. If Argo's in the UK, it might at least be quicker, if not less.

Ah'm wonderin' if Ogo's on the road...

Just compare the shipping cost if you go pick it up.

I didn't take them- they are photos linked directly from the listing, which isn't mine unless I state it. I thought adding them to the thread would make it abit more interesting to casually browse.

Oh no, I absolutely agree- I shouldve stated that I was coming from a position where I'd just bought another telescope locally. £20 shipping is fine but becomes annoying when I want to start buying stuff from abroad as regularly as I do locally(!) But that's a me problem, not a shipping problem.

there is a rule here that you can only post your own pictures and you need permission of the person who took the pictures to post pictures that someone else took.

I've always wondered why this is the case.  If i quote a passage of text from something like a book or a news-site and give a proper attribution, it's considered "fair use" but a picture isn't??

If it is in public, it is fair use. If it is from a site that requires a login, then it's private. Probably easier to just require permission for all photos than to try to explain to people how to distinguish (especially for sites where you see some things public and others only by logging in), and photos are more likely to contain additional sensitive information (like someone's street number inadvertently in the background) than text.

Oh then I too may have a mea culpa, as I thought it was okay to post a LINKED picture. That is to say you did not copy an image and post that copy, but directed your post to the URL for the actual image link (when clicking on "image" and prompted for a URL) Yes/no?!?

There are a lot of gray areas and shouldn't do's when it come to posting pictures on the internet. You avoid all of those if you only post your own pics, so as per the TOS, please only post pictures if they are your own. Now, lets please get back on topic and post some ads!

thanks,

Sean
