Believe it or not, despite Amazon Prime lulling Americans into a false sense that shipping is always free, it does cost money to send even a small

object 7000 miles....I quoted a Russian guy $112 shipping for something the other day, he thought it was excessive.  It was using a special courier, I told him UPS wanted $400 and Fedex $475.00.

The US Postal Office has high shipping rates compared to the rest of the world. To top it office, some of the lower USPS shipping rates are only available through a 3rd party vendor--some of those deals the Post Office has with Amazon, eBay, Paypal. You can't buy postage for those rates at the Post Office or on the Post Office Website. It often shocks people in other countries who want to buy something I'm selling when I tell the them the postage to ship to them, which might be 2 or 6 times (I making a point and may not be accurate) what it would cost for them to send it to us.

Wow, that Lafayette 99-7213 on SGW is pretty cool, but which of you nutjobs bid that thing up to $300?! Sheesh!

I think I'll let ya'll hash that out amongst yourselves. Besides, I'm saving up my Ducats for when one of those nifty little Taks show up... drool5.gif

If it is in public, it is fair use. If it is from a site that requires a login, then it's private. Probably easier to just require permission for all photos than to try to explain to people how to distinguish (especially for sites where you see some things public and others only by logging in), and photos are more likely to contain additional sensitive information (like someone's street number inadvertently in the background) than text.

Unfortunate.  Might as well just be back on usenet text-based bulletin boards

We never claimed to be sane (sanity being a Legal Concept, after all).  Again:  This is a 1960s/70s Yamamoto A-63 with a high-quality objective.  And, it's uncommon in the USA.  And, this one is in VG / Mint Condition...

Mine was in JUNK YARD condition.  Restored nicely, and at F7, is a grab & go par excellence.

But yes, anything > $200 is a bit daft -- maybe 14+ months of Lock-Down has tanked our senses?

The Simmons here should be very similar to that little SGW Lafayette. Unfortunately it’s pickup only in Denver.

Not an efficient solution to getting rid of scopes, especially and if your neighbour is 2 miles away and runs a hog farm....

To follow:  Fair use of screen shots IS legal:  In other words, if you were to post a screen shot of a telescope for sale rather than a link, it violates NO copyright laws since it is a social media comment to illustrate a point and not being used as a means to earn money.

Hi Rich,

In my experience, expensive litigation such as the case you linked to is exactly the reason many private websites choose to adopt more prohibitive terms of service. Preemptively quashing any potential copyright issues in posts via a site's restrictive TOS is much safer in terms of infringement risk, less ambiguous and requires less potentially argumentative moderation of individual posts. These benefits to a site's owner will many times outweigh the imposition of a more restrictive blanket prohibition against posting any copyrighted materials, even while certain portions of such materials may likely qualify for an exemption under the law.

That said, the CN TOS does in fact allow copyrighted material to be reproduced on the site as long as permission is obtained beforehand from the owner or copyright holder (see TOS 1.2(3)); and, attribution such as "Copyright owned by [name of owner]; Used by Permission." is provided (see TOS 2.3). The CN TOS is at https://www.cloudyni...tion=boardrules.

Hope this helps everyone make more sense of the CN policy at issue.

Regards,

Brian

I would make an offer on this but can't be bothered with shipping charges (USA).

VINTAGE CARL ZEISS JENA C-63/480 LENS ?

Thought it was a copy lens until I remembered the very famous Zeiss telescope series. This is a Telementor 840mm f13.3 cell. Photos don't do a good job of showing any scratches/marks/dents, but no element seperation.

Here's a question- how were these mounted originally? I see an article which talks about dimples for set screws, but I can't see anything like that on here. And the rear end of the cell isn't threaded- only the front.

Ogopogo likey,, a DIY telementor would be great,, unless charitable person has one that no need? Ogopogo pay shipping,,,, biggrin.png

Wow!  Good price on that.  It amazes me what  can be had today for the equivalent of what I paid for a dinky 60mm decades ago.

Price would seem to be reasonable on that for what it is.

From my personal observations it's possible to get a decent 60mm to 6" aperture scope literally for free with less than 24 hours of searching. It is easier than ever to get into this hobby equipment-wise.
