virgo-400-20-1-sir2pssmall.jpg

Tracked but not guided, 20 second subs and 2 hours total integration.  Nikon D750 with Sigma zoom at 400 mm.

I was having problems getting setup because one of my legs is loose a tiny bit and when the mount rotates around it sometimes flexes the leg by a small amount which makes random frames smeared as if the PA was really bad.  I couldn't figure it out for quite a while though.

Anyhow, despite my problems, I thought this wasn't too bad on 2 hours integration.

Nice image rj144.  How was it processed?

Calibated with flats (although they weren't great), darks, and bias and stacked with DSS.  Stretched, background extraction, and color calibration in Siril and a few tweaks in Affinity with the Astroflat plugin too.

Ha... to be clear, the leg on my mount.  I need to remember to tighten that up before I go out tonight.

Is this image centered on M101- not had a much closer look?

It's a very nice wide field for sure.

Thanks... M99 is centered.  I actually don't star align either so I use the goto based on PA.  I then actually take the card out and plate solve with a computer to see where I'm at.  So, I think I told it to go to M100, but M99 came up centered pretty much, so I just went with it.

Gorgeous, thanks!

Thank you.

Thanks... here's the plate solve info:

Man........even in the  times of Star Trek, they couldn’t go from one galaxy to another, easily. But you toss off galaxy jumping as if its no big deal! Your celestial navigation techniques must be taught in the greatest Universities in “The United Federation of Planets”!bow.gif

Umm... I appreciate the props, I think, but I literally did a goto and it landed on a different galaxy and I just started anyhow.  No navigation at all.

....in the best tradition of the “Q”.....altho you have more modesty than the “Q”.
