Thanks for the heads-up. Yeah, I also really don't need them ... but was too tempted by the Extreme 7x35.
The one I had, I gifted. It's great for beginners and for sharing. When I would go touring in a group where I knew I would be asked to give a look, I took that one. Because no one touches my personal binos (Habicht, E2, etc.). With that one I feel I am giving up little in view enjoyment, and have no issues letting others knock it about.
This new one, I might just hold boxed for a gift. At $87 including shipping, it optically delivers way above its cost.
Also, I think a Nikon refurb is a more sure thing than brand new. It has been humanly checked and I think they would not let it out if not well within specs. To me, normal "quality control" by comparison could more likely produce unlucky sample variation.
