Dear all,

this sunny morning, I spent half an hour before having an 11km hike with my family to draw the sun with pastels. Actually both things have been wonderful amusements in these days when lots of other nice things don't work.

So here's the sketch:

20210417_Sun_H_alpha_01.JPG

Telescope: Lunt LS50THaB600PT
Eyepiece: Celestron X-Cel 10mm
Date & Time: April 17th, 2021 / 1000-1030 CEST
Location: home terrace, Dusseldorf region, Germany
Technique: reddish Koh-i-Noor Toison d'Or pastels and pastel pens on black Hahnemühle mould-made pastel paper
Size: 24 x 31 cm

Clear skies and take care

Achim

Nice!  What paper are you using, to get such saturated coverage?

How do you get such amazing color on black sketch paper? Do you put down a white circle first?

Hi,

thanks :) I'm using Hahnemühle 'Büttenpapier' especially made for pastels. Its structure is binding the pastel powders quite well.

Thanks!  I need to look that up.  At first I wondered if they might even be oil pastels.

Lovely blending, and I love the bright color.

Excellent sketch of the Sun!
I just ordered the same telescope as your Lunt LS50THa/B600PT, on your German website. Will come to me soon.
I hope it doesn't disappoint me. bow.gif

Hi Vlad,

thanks for the feedback!

I'm sure you will have fun with the new scope! Even though I would be happy if mine had an optional cloud eraser ;)

Clear skies (sic!)

in my Lunt 50, the Sun looks a bright red "bloody" color, not like in this sketch, where it is rather yellow-orange.

Hi Vlad,
actually I checked my original sketch - it's hard to catch the proper white balance when taking a digital image. Maybe it should be a bit more reddish.

Regarding my Lunt 50, I'd say it is more bright reddish instead of blood red.

Clear skies
