Some years ago I had a C102-HD , it was the best refractor Id ever owned. and used it more than any scope I owned, for nearly 2 decades, then I dropped it , and it shattered in multiple places, Ive had other 4 inch refractors since, but none were a C102-HD.

Well ,thanks to the last stimulus check, I purchased a used C102-HD , I know its not my C102-HD , but it'll do.

I know the original Vixen versions were on a super polaris, and the newer ones were on a CG4 mount.

I have neither of those mounts currently, so that will be an ongoing project/

I have had one for years and never will let it go.   Just a great scope to use.

I had one, it put out excellent views, it came out basically when the Vixen models phased out. Ed Ting highly recommended them in his review ! Mine came with the 2” Crayford focuser.

Mine has the stock 2 inch focuser, seems rather maintained.

Now to set about making an extension for the dew shield.

My recollection was those had a rather long, adequate dew shield compared to some ?

I had the very first run of the CG4 and 5 mounts.  I also had the first run non Vixen C102 HD.  This was back in 1997 when the mounts had the small tripod legs.

I just had the scope and put it on one of my AZ4’s, I sold it to someone in town that was looking for just that size scope, for what I paid.

I still have my C102 HD and its a very good performer.

Rides well on the Omni CG4 or on my Skyview Pro CG5 mount.

Much lighter than his older cousin, the Vixen SPC102.

I own one from around that time 1997.

It came with a Alt-Az mounting. I like it on my Unistar mount as in this

photo.

Mine has a plastic dew shield and objective cell, I see yours is metal.

I can forgive plastic when the optics are this sharp.

I wish I knew who in China made the scope. I'm trying to remember

who owned Celestron at the time. I don't think it was Synta yet, it may

have been Tasco.

They just dropped Vixen stuff around 1996 and went to the China made stuff. That first CG5 was a big let down vs the SP mount. It had tar for lube and had the small tripod legs. Once we got to around 2001 or so they had the much better and bigger tripods and the mount itself got better over time.

Synta replaced Vixen as their supplier in the early 90s, probably around the time Vixen replaced their own low end products with ones from Synta.

I just checked and I still have the mount that came with the scope.  Amazing the gear I have hiding on the shelves.

First project, as soon as possible replace the focuser. Man that drawtube has a ton of slop in it
