Cloudy blustery weather made for a challenging sketch tonight. Although I have sketched the whole Moon dozens of times in the past, I have only sketched the full Moon a few times. The full Moon is easier to sketch than the other phases of the Moon with the exception of the new Moon which I have not sketched except during a solar eclipse. It was cloudy most of the night but I got started and then  I was forced to stop as it rained. I set my alarm to try again before sun up and with a break in the clouds before moonset I was able to continue and finish the sketch.
This sketch was made using my 4.25“f/5 Newtonian scope with a 26 mm eyepiece for 21 X.
The scope rested on an equatorial platform on top of a table as I sketched on black paper with white charcoal pencils. Using Gimp 2.8 I changed the background. April 26, 2021 Full Moon

Fireworks on the Moon! It's accurate and it's art; really makes an impression. Nicely done.

Hello Frank,

that's a wonderful sketch of the super moon. I always like the sketches of the whole moon here! Yours is outstanding.

Clear skies

Viewer, Jef, Markus, Michael, Brad, Raul, Achim,

Thanks for the nice comments on this fun sketch. We have had a string of clear nights lately but the full Moon night was a challenge.  I think I will sleep good tonight.

That's one of the best full moon sketches I've seen!  Very cool!

Epic skills.

Eric,

Thank you much. The Full moon is easier than these sketches below

Moon sketches likes these examples by Jef, Mike Rector and Astronz (Ian) and others are much more challenging  and take more practice

I for one think some of the deep sky sketches you post are more difficult than a full Moon sketch.

Nice going with the 'Pink' moon, Frank. I think the textured background is very cool! waytogo.gif

What I like is the impression of the light. That kind of brightness that one sees with the naked eye (or with binoculars) in th brighter albedo feature. I have yet to see a phograph to give this kinfod of impression as your sketch
