Magnifying Glass In Wooden Box

Magnifying Glass In Wooden Box. Condition is "Used". Dispatched with Courier as photo glass some are chipped as photo I am not sure the history on these so selling as spares and repair could be some use to someone with more knowledge then me 6” large lenses 1.5” inch the small one

Photo 1 overall

Photo 2 'eyepiece'/prisms/singlets closeup

Photo 3 ditto

Photo 4 physically resembles a secondary mirror but not reflective

Photo 5 closeup of one of the "lenses" (identified by chip)

Photo 6 closeup of the other lens (identified without the chip)

Can someone clue me in here what I'm looking at, or what is this set for? My uninformed eye saw the large pieces of thick glass and thought 'mirror blank'.

No magnifying lens for visual inspection of things I've ever seen for sale is made of a singular, thick piece of 'glass'.

But the obvious answer I have in mind is these are two 6 inch optical plates/stages for inspecting things. But I've also seen a fair few of those for sale, of varying ages, and never have they been this thick...

I'm sure what it came with might be a hint, but the closer I look at the box the more homemade it looks. Even if its not a telescope blank, can someone remind me what type of glass it might be from its colour?

??  It's about the same size as your 6" f/4, and your C150R.  And much  smaller than your 10" dob.

If it was close to me, I would get it.  I like the way it looks.

I sent a message. I just have so many telescopes...starting to run out of space for all of them.

 A cool old scope though

Now this is an interesting oddball! It’s a Mizar/Hino Cat. Looks like a Maksutov variant as the correction lens system in the back:

Perfect for someone who loves an odd and rare bird, and especially a Mizar fan. I think we know who I’m talking about. ;)

I decided to just get the eyepieces and let someone else enjoy the telescope. I gave her a fair deal on them and left the two eyepieces that came with the scope so she could sell those with the scope. Must have been a family scope...had some older stuff in there.

Good move.   I was ready to go for a 1 hour drive if someone did not make up their mind soon.

That is what you call a want to be scope, but will never get there.

Yeah, it would be uneconomical to make into one. Just curious how it ended up like this- maybe it was literally someone getting stuff together to make a scope that wasn't even started.

If I could make an offer for basically nothing I'd use them as grinding practice. UK has smaller used market from my limited experience.

In Midland, Michigan - only $50

Wish it wasn't so far away, or I'd grab this in an instant!

That's going to be a challenging project. The corrector is very cloudy, and no image of the mirrors. The spacer material between the retaining ring and the glass has gone brittle and is falling out. But if someone has time to make the effort, it could be a real gem.

I just sold a mount-less one in slightly better shape for 400. This C5 has the super-rare old style tabletop wedge and a tripod.

The table top wedge looks like it's been cut, or did they made some like that?

Can anyone identify exactly what this GEM is? I'm afraid my knowledge is confined to my Tasco mounts.

It’s a Carton mount, probably for a 60mm.

It's a Carton and they are good.

Yes it's a 60mm and I would buy it in a flash if I was near.
