Just bought a GSO 8” f/5 Newtonian OTA off the classifieds here and it’s on its way, my question is the Guan Shen logo on the white tube .. is that just a sticker that can be peeled off and not leave a residual ghost image, or is it painted on? I don’t want to try and remove it just to make it worse than just leaving it on. Thanks

I don't own one, but I can answer in the case if it's painted on, very light sandpaper is the answer.  Take off the lettering with 600 grit, then smooth it out with 2000 grit.  Then spray paint over.

In the case of sanding it, you don't really need to move all of the lettering.  What you're going for is to remove any ridges that would show through a coat of paint.  You'll know when you get it completely smooth, then wipe off the entire tube with a wet cloth, let dry a few minutes, then spray paint.

Recommend sealing off the ends of the tube with paper and painters tape after you remove all the components from it.

If it's a sticker, a heat gun on the low setting, or a hair dryer on high heat, are essential to releasing the glue bond and making the vinyl flexible.

Yeah just got it and mine’s painted on too.

It’s painted on, but actually looks kinda cool, but since I can never leave things be I’ll probably paint the whole thing Takahashi baby blue, or get the carbon fiber upgrade tube for it from TS (if it’s a decent mirror that is). Thanks for explaining the touch up process 👍

Painted on, but easily scratches off with a fingernail to reveal the original paint underneath.

When i bought mine i thought the same as you but at the end i left it as it is.

If you will not paint everything just leave it on. As you said it's cool.

I don't think the logo affects the performance.

It does if that logo says ’Starfire’ ;)

You can paint it Tak blue but that won't make it a Tak.

That looks good grin.gif My 12" lightbridge is at the powdercoater right now going from white to a fine textured black. I contemplated going the 3d carbon wrap look and kinda wished I did now!

And leaving it white won’t make it an Astro-Physics .. your point?
