a device we created that is not present/evident from looking at the natural world... the first I think being the wheel/axle

I disagree, I would think the first would have to be the Boat.  Everyone needs one! Since then... Sword, but personally I prefer the fishing rod and hooks.  The tug is the drug!

On the hottest of days it keeps you cold drinks cold.

On the coldest of days it keeps your hot drinks hot.

Greatest invention ,

There are many things humans have invented over time that makes work more productive , things that

take fear away like vaccine for polio .

But my vote goes for the thing that made the world we live in today possible

and that is AC electric generation and distribution . Shut your electric power off at your small city or

town , even just your home for 1 year and after that period of time you , not someone else will kill anyone

standing in the way of turning it back on .   I guarantee !

Hello,

.       Come now , it’s the improper use and dismissive attitude by most people and local gov. that lets this

mess happen , not electrical service itself .

but it also caused unnecessary light pollution ... smirk.gif

Of course Leonard, it was just an excuse to remember that there is too much light pollution in the world ... waytogo.gif

As I am writing there is a light bulb on above my head (5W LED) and a flat 32 "bulb in front of my face (I don't know how many Watts, but the brightness is set to zero and consequently the energy needed is minimal).

The idea of an Organized Society, with laws, enabling the sharing of ideas and the working together to foster those ideas into something.

If not that, it's just chaos all the time, and we'd have nothing.

Excellent point, but in my opinion it cannot be considered an "invention of man", since many other animals "make flock for" ... and maybe even before us.

Money, banks, the stock exchange, insurance companies, etc ... are man-made inventions.
Organized Societies to make more money by exploiting material, vegetal and animal resources, including exploiting man himself ... (I exaggerated? smirk.gif).

The road network, with all its rules and various means of transport, is partly a man's invention ... but not very organized, as some prefer use that in the wrong direction of travel!  lol.gif
