Any AsiAir/Losmandy users have their system meridian flipping? Anyone see this before?

Note this is when shooting Ha (360 sec exp) and the AAP v is 1.60

thnx,

Bill

I figured out what the Air and G11 needed to work.

First one needs to know that the G11 Goto Limit and Western Limits settings are related. The default Goto Limit is 2:30 ie 2.5 degrees.

I set my Western Limit to 100 degrees after checking clearance while swiveling the Dec. Then I determined the Goto Limit I needed to have the reference for the Air I wanted. I chose 7.5 degrees for the Goto Limit. Then:

100 - 7.5 = 92.5

90 degrees is vertical so:

92.5-90 = 2.5

ie 2.5 degrees is the point past vertical from which the G11 will allow the flip.

then in the AsiAir there are two settings:

1) is to stop tracking and imaging before AMF. I set 5 minutes

2) the other is a timer to do the automatic meridian flip (AMF) x minutes after one reaches transit. I set 15 min.

then 15 x .25 degs/min gives a rotational delay of 3.75 deg, 1.25 degrees past the G11 limit position.

The operation went off like clockwork except after the flip, the Air just couldn’t setting on a plate solution. It looped its plate solve bouncing between two locations and couldn’t setting on a solution. Then it diverge more wildly, I canceled the process and sent the mount to park. RA returned ok but the Dec was heading to be 180 degrees off and I killed it.

it’s important to note the G11 slows its RA approach during the 10 degrees prior to the Western Limit. It will mess up imaging. I watch several nights wondering what was going on at that limit. That’s why I picked 100 degrees. I wanted at least 90 degs of imaging ability.

next time I will stop imaging/guiding at 0 minutes. I will like reduce the delay time a bit. But if the Air can solve better I may do it the old fashion way.

Found the problem. My DEC clutch was loose.

Last night the system flipped perfectly.

Thanks for this post Bill! Are you still getting consistent flips?

Shawn
