Hi all,

Please read the following eBay auction link and tell me if you found this as funny, and sad, as I did.

Key words to look for...'vigorous rubbing', 'wipe marks', 'lens cloth', etc. :scared:

Knowledge is key. Lack of it ruined a fine instrument. The Orange C8 I used to own was excellent.

One can only wonder what happened to the corrector to get that way and only on the innner surface. Yet the mirror is relatively untouched???

Ouch. I would NOT have used Acetone on the primary mirror. He probably made it worse by doing that.

The second to last picture in his auction shows how bad the primary is (bottom left).

I'm still trying to figure out how that would happen in the warm dry Arizona climate.

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't pay any more than his starting bid ($20) for it, given what it will cost to refinish the primary mirror, and the time it would take to fix the mount's corrosion.

"vigorous rubbing" (of optics) is NEVER good!

That's a shame.

Clear dark skies...
