I saw this banged up scope in a kinda-sorta of antique shop. I asked the person working there if I could look through it outside. They didn't mind so I took it outside and looked through it. The focuser was a little janked up but once it came into focus I was surprised by how nice it looked.

I bought it for 20 bucks, brought it home, drilled and tapped a new hole and put in a new screw to hold the focuser rack in place.

And I love it

I want to get rings and a proper alt az for it but know nothing about doing that.

If anyone has any advice on how to do that or can point me to threads that cover that sort of thing I would appreciate it.

Here is a thread on Pentax scopes. Generally vary good quality, although every brand has the occasional lemon (though sometimes a "poor" example will tuen out to be fixable). Sounds like you have a good one.

I've used Halex conduit hangars in the past for mounting 50mm scopes onto a Vixen dovetail.  You can paint them with some black wrinkle paint and line them with felt.

I have two of these scopes.  One is labeled Asahi Pentax and the other is the older Jupiter labeled scope.  Both are excellent scopes.

Pentax coffee makers..?!? bigshock.gif Actually, I hear they're not bad - but you need the genuine Pentax Blend beans for a really decent cup..!

On the serious side, I only paid the equivalent of a few more dollars when I bought one of these in Adelaide, South Australia a year or so ago...in brand new condition from a deceased estate who must've been a hoarder, my serial number is #265627 which probably means it came after yours.

A very nice little scope imo & very sharp! waytogo.gif

My pentax also came from junk shop! but for scoring it for 20 bucks, congrats! it's a great little scope. It'll fit with rings+dovetail.

Here's my 60mm asahi with rings.

I dont have a lot of time in astronomy but I looked at the moon last night with this and it looked super sharp.

Mine's delight using it for planets. They're fine scopes.

That one is for when I took the photos only, but it is S-B mount. It is a mount made by a member here (senio100)-it can handle a lot. The tripod is photo tripod, SLIK700. It's pretty good.

I use smaller setup when I'm out with asahi though, either on original mount or other small az setup.
