Thanks for the info, but isn't that the only importer here in the USA?

They only ship to USA and Canada, so it's certainly possible that they've got some kind of territory deal.

There are a few threads on CN about this. The current US distributor is retiring.  Vixen Japan is apparently talking to several possible replacement distributors. Last I read, they hope to have something in place by August.

You didn’t, I am glad you took the time to share the info. What if it was the real Vixen. We would have all wanted to know. Mark

That is what I have heard too. Hopefully the new distributor  is announced by then.

There are two other threads here on CN.  Brian is retiring as the distributor.  Vixen is looking for another distributor.

I got a bit scared!   I love the new Vixen refractors.  Bargain taks IMO.

Hopefully we get a new distributor soon.

Vixen Optics is the only distributor for Vixen in the US.

Yes, correct.   This has happened three times since 2000.  First Orion Telescope and Binoculars was the importer of Vixen products.  Then TeleVue became the importer.  The Vixen GP series of mounts were terrific companions to the TeleVue OTA's.   And then, Brian Deis (formally of Meade) became the importer opening Vixen Optics.

I believe Celestron was the importer of Vixen prior to Orion Telescopes.

Yes Celestron did import Vixen telescopes and mounts but under their Celestron brand. Orion did it after Celestron and branded Vixen products as Orion by Vixen. Tele Vue imported Vixen stuff just as Vixen and the distributorship was Vixen North America and finally Brian Deis with Vixen Optics. We shall see who's next.

Vixen Optics (StarGuy) = US and Canada Distributor. Deals directly with Vixen Japan.

B&H, Adorama, OPT = Dealers. Deals with Vixen Optics (StarGuy).

Same as you can buy a Takahashi from Woodland Hills or Astronomics Etc. but they are imported and distributed in the US by Takahashi America. And you can buy a Nikon at B&H but it is imported and distributed in the US by Nikon USA. But you can buy direct from Takahashi America or Nikon USA and from Vixen Optics. And most likely direct sales from Vixen's new distributer will be possible also.

Something that may be unique to Takahashi is when I bought my Mewlon 180 I bought it from Woodland Hills which is in California but my scope was shipped to me from Takahashi America in Houston Texas and it  was air shipped. I don't know if that is just in certain situations or it's a Takahashi thing to minimize the risk of damage from shipping.

They air ship (2-day) to lessen the likelihood of damage (less handling).

B&H obtained Vixen telescopes from Vixen Optics, the US distributor of Vixen products.  B&H is a vendor.

Does anyone know when Vixen will name a new USA distributor?

I bought FF and FR for the Vixen FL55ss from Mr.StarGuy last week and put any order for the Vixen FL55ss from B&H (which indicated delivering in ~2wks).  Today, B&H cancelled the order saying it was unavailable from their distributor.

I called Mr.StarGuy (previous Vixen distributor) last week, and he said his distribution was ending the next day, and Vixen was in the process of naming a new distributor.  He sounded like it was going to be a bigger name.  Any guess who it will be?

I need to know if I should wait for the new USA distributor, or look to order from Europe.

I want the Vixen FL55ss for late-summer / early-fall big AP targets, so I am not in an immediate rush.  I am hoping to do an over/under combo double-duty, with my Esprit 100 at 413mm FL with the QHY268 and the Vixen FL55ss with the ASI183.  The FoV of both combos is VERY close, so I can get ~2x productivity of my clear skies.
