Check this out.. on the 15 of Aug 2021, there will be a very interesting conjunction in the Jovian Lunar System. [Edits made to elaborate]

It happens during a Jovian double eclipse when Europa & Ganymede both cast a shadow on Jupiter.

However, as both are transiting, Europa's faster orbital speed causes it to overlap Ganymede, and as it passes, it is also partially eclipsed.

Only problem, it happens during the middle of the day [below the horizon for the USA]. Screenshots courtesy of Stellarium.

Thanks for the heads-up. SkySafari 6 Pro shows the shadows of Europa & Ganymede overlapping so Europa must indeed be partially eclipsed.

For my location (Sydney) the event is shown at Monday August 16 at 03h 23m with Jupiter at 43 degrees altitude in the NW sky, before dawn.

Fingers crossed we're not in a COVID Lockdown.

And a few minutes before Ganymede eclipses Europa from our vantage point!  I guess that's what you are showing, Rac19.

Extraordinary!

Thanks for the heads up on this!

Alex,

Correct as per post #3, the real action will be at 3:23 AM. Let's hope it's not cloudy.

I must've left that part out [forgot to mention].. There's also an occultation between the two moons.
