I am having problems downloading a current version of this program on my desktop or laptop. Both are using and older version of windows 7. Will it not work anymore with this OS? Any suggestion?

FYI, I do have Sky Safari 5+ as a back up on my phone.

thanks, bob

I am having problems downloading a current version of this program on my desktop or laptop.

What exactly is the problem? There should be an error of some kind you can post.

I'll have to try and download it again to see what the reason was. I think it downloaded the program, but when I went to run the program it crashed?

Take a look at the stellarium advanced usage wiki page, specifically the command line options. I suspect running in angle mode (-a) would resolve your issue.

Okay. So, first we want to be sure it downloaded without errors. Normally, if the download is interrupted or corrupted there would be an error message from the download program. If you are successful in downloading, then run it to install. Again, any installation problem should show up as an error. Lastly, if the first 2 steps complete successfully and you click on the icon to actually start Stellarium and it crashes, it should show up in the Stellarium log.

I'm not on Windows so I'm not sure where the log file is located so perhaps another Windows user can chime in here.

Stellarium Log:

C:\Users\XXXXX\AppData\Roaming\Stellarium/log.txt

Where YOUR COMPUTER NAME replaces the XXXXX.

Also

Can be found in Stellarium:

Question Mark on Left Side menu then Log Tab

or [F1]

I tried to download another time. It downloaded the program ok and got the icon on my desktop and when I tried to run the program, that's where I run into problems.

The message I got was " A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program" . So that is what I'm against. BTW, it was the 64 bit version I tried from their website.

Help, I love using the old program, but it will not work anymore and that's why I tried a new version.

Make sure you're updates and have all drivers necessary. It works on a jillion computers, so you need to get yours up to snuff.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't that be USERNAME instead of COMPUTER NAME?

I sit corrected. USERNAME is correct. But it would be hard to get lost from there.

The [F1] key and Log Tab in Stellarium is even easier, and won't get you lost.
