About the only upside to the smoky haze is the spectacular sunsets it produces.  Provided of course that you are safely situated hundreds of miles from the nearest fires.  But yeah, like Ohio, Ontario, etc even though we are safely distant from the western wildfires, night sky conditions in North Carolina are terrible for observing.  And the NWS has all of NC under an "air quality alert" for excessive fine particulates.
