NGC 5189 (Gum 47, IC 4274, nicknamed Spiral Planetary Nebula) is a planetary nebula in the constellation Musca. It was discovered by James Dunlop on 1 July 1826.

 

Imaged in narrow band using Svbony 7nm narrow band Ha, OIII and SII filters using a Skywatcher 300PDS 12" F5 Newtonian, ZWO ASI 183mm Pro, 911 x 30 seconds.

That's a very strange PN, never before seen an image of this one!

I observed NGC 5189 years ago through a 22" Dob from the Bolivian Altiplano.  It was perhaps the strangest looking planetary nebula that I've ever viewed.

Excellent work.  I'd say it's a barred spiral planetary!  Never seen this one before, so thanks for sharing it.
