No matter what I do I cannot get starsense hand controller to pick up the auto focus, both by Celestron. Any suggestions?

My Evolution 8HD this a few months ago. I reset everything at the mount (Evo) and then ran CFM a couple of times. It did take me a few tries but then no more problems.

Have you updated the firmware with CFM? If not, that should be the first thing you do.

+1   Update the firmware.  The StarSense hand-controller, like everything else, ships with out-of-date firmware, which in this case means it lacks the menus for dealing with the Celestron Focus Motor.

I am having the same problem.  All firmware has been updated.  When I plug in the the NexStar HC, I see the "focus" under menu.  But it is not there when the StarSense HC is plugged in.  Bizarre.

Update the firmware on the StarSense hand-controller itself.

After updating, the hand-controller should then have the version number (1.20.20265) as shown here:

Yes that's what my update shows on the StarSense HC.  But still no "focus" in the menu.

It may not be at the same place in the menu structure as it is on the Nexstar+ HC.  Try looking through ALL sub-menus for it.

It will not appear unless the focus motor is plugged in and functional -- I no longer have a focus motor here, so it's tricky for me to test this now.

Yes it's connected and I can use it works fine though wifi connected to the app.  And I've checked all the sub menus.   I guess I'll just use the app.

Try switching the cable. Move the StarSense cable to the Focus Motor. Try again. With 4 cable ends and 4 connector combinations, even having to try them all won't take long. It is more likey for a cable to fritz out than a connector, so it shouldn't take long at all.

Good luck,

Mike

Try switching the cable. Move the StarSense cable to the Focus Motor.

That's a particularly good suggestion.  It will guarantee that the hand-controller itself should be able to "see" the focus motor.

Tried switching all the cables.   StarSense HC still does not "see" the focus motor.  Just the NexStar HC.  But the SkyPortal app can "see" the focus motor through wifi.  It must be something in the StarSense HC software.  Others hare having the same problem in other forums.  I'll have to wait for the next firmware update and hopefully it is fixed.

Yes.  No difference.  Must be software related as others are having the same problem.
