Dear observers, that is my first Jupiter for this season. It culminates in the morning which is the best time for observing: The air is steady and the instrument has been cooled down. I used my 5 inch refractor at 180x and 250.

I tried to reproduce the colors as close as possible.

Enjoy!

No, I uses normal colored pencils. I have a box of 48, from the Czech Koh-i-noor. With some experience, they can be mixed, which I did.

I am partly chemist and like your periodic table cutout. There are not much names which can be written this way. Frank is one of them. Uwe isn't :(

Uwe,

Were the bands really red like that?

I tried reproducing the colors as close as possible. If you look close at colors, you mostly get a visual a contrast enhancement. Please keep that in mind. At the first glance, it was less colorful. With colors it is the same as for dim details: They require long views with all observational tricks.

Uwe, with color pencils I guess it is difficult to fond or mix the right color. I had the same problem trying to choose from millions of hues in my PC paint program. Far too many to choose from. Jupiter ranged anywhere from purple to orange.

Nice, sketch, Uwe.

Good ideas. My tendency has been to finish drawings quickly, to see how many I could do on a given night. From now on, I'm going to take my time. lol.gif
