Pushing the outside of the envelope with an ES ED80 and a Canon T3i. This was my first time capturing the Great Red Spot since July 2019. I was focusing mostly on deep-sky imaging last summer so I didn't get anything decent for Jupiter in 2020.
During this capture, I was shooting through an overcast layer of thin cirrus clouds, and I'm sure that hurt the SNR. I was also experimenting with a faster exposure time than usual (1/100 sec, or 10 ms). Since my camera maxes out at 30 FPS, I think I'm just throwing away SNR by using anything faster than 1/30 sec (33 ms). I know about the importance of using a fast exposure to freeze the seeing, but from what I understand, 33 ms should be fast enough (especially with a small scope in good seeing). I'll have to do some experimenting to test this theory!
Also, after capturing RAW video for an hour with an indicated internal temperature of about 130 F, my 8-year-old T3i started crashing with some weird memory errors. Everything seems to be working now though. Given all of the above, I'm very happy with this result! I'm no expert with this stuff, so feedback is always welcome.
