Hi, I am hoping someone might be able to help me out here in how to install ASTAP in Pointcraft  ( in Astrophotography tool )
I have gone into Pointcraft and went to the link for ASTAP that it provides.

I have downloaded the 64 bit version and that didn't work, so downloaded the zipped 32 bit version.
That worked, and i have unzipped / extracted all files.
I have also downloaded the H18 star map.

Now i am a tad stuck as what i am suppose to do to let Pointcraft know how to access ASTAP for solving
I went to extract / unzip the file and was prompt where to put it,

I made a separate folder called ASTAP and put all the extracted folders in there.

The H18 star database got installed where the computer wanted it,  i just wrote down where it is so i know for latter on when i get this all sorted.

So after all that, what link do i have to tell pointcraft?

Do i just have to tell it were the folder i called ASTAP is,  or do i need to tell it were the application astap is

( there are 5 different applications under the ASTAP folder,  astap, dcraw, deep_sky, unprossed_raw, vairable_stars )

Then what do i have to do with this H18 star map folder?
This folder got installed under program files / astap

As you can see,  i am a little confused here at the moment for what i am suppose to do.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for the link,  yes i did read through that,  but just doesn't read right to me.

A bit too much skipped over for me unfortunately.

It says:

Just select ASTAP in the APT pointcraft menu after installing both ASTAP and the G17 star database.

So select ASTAP folder as the path or the astap program inside the ASTAP folder as the path?

Then how dose it find the H18 star database as that is in a separate folder altogether.

As you can see,  i am a tad confused.

I have rewritten the instruction. You don't have to select a path.

1) Install ASTAP to the default directory.

2) Install the H18 to the default directory.

In APT:

3) In point craft select ASTAP as solver.

4) In " Tools", "Object calculator" set the focal length and "CCD width x height" correctly

5) Test it with a raw image

Thanks for the reply,  appreciated.

I think that is the part i was confused about,  (1)

As i had to install the ziped 32 bit version,  the 64 bit version just didn't seam to want to open.

I made a seperate folder called ASTAP and then unzipped the downloaded folder into this folder i created.

So you are just saying select this folder that i have created?

In APT,  you have to tell it where to find ASTAP

Dose that make sense?

Yes, put the unzipped 32 bit ASTAP together with the star database files and specify the path to it in APT. If you install the H18 first, the files will go to folder c:\program files\astap  You could move then the unzipped 32 bit astap.exe to that location. But you can use any location as long the program and database are in the same location/folder.

Ok,  that sounds a bit better for me at least.

So in simple terms for me at least and please correct me if i am wrong here.

In the unzipped 32 bit ASTAP folder,  i only want the astap application,  the 3,343KB part ?

1.

I just then move this to the folder that is the H18 folder ( c:\program files\astap )

So when i look in the folder c:\program files\astap  I will have the H18 database and also the astap application

Or 2.

Just simply Click on the ASTAP folder, select all 5 applications that are in their and copy these 5 applications into the folder c:\program files\astap

So when i click on folder c:\program files\astap   I will have the H18 database and the 5 applications ( astap, dcraw, deep_sky, unprossed_raw, vairable_stars )

Or 3.

Delete the unzipped folder of ASTAP altogether,  go back and unzip / extract the zipped folder of ASTAP,

and when it askes " select a destination and extract files " just select the Folder that the H18 database is in

( c:\program files\astap )

Option 3 sounds like the correct one rom what you are saying.

Sorry i am probably making this sound way more difficult than it is suppose to be.

Just would like to know if it is option 1,  2  or 3

I should be good form there on.

Once again, apologize for making this all sound so difficult.

1 and 2 will work. Option 2 will give you the utility files required for annotation. Also unprocessed_raw.exe will allow import of DSLR raw files. Windows will complain if you copy or move them to c:\program files\astap. Just click on allow or something like that.

3 will not work. Windows doesn't allow unzip to c:\program files\astap, You really have to unzip them somewhere else first.

So go for 2.
