I am just one year into the hobby and am trying to repair a Celestron NexStar 130 SLT as a gift to a neighborhood teen who is interested in astronomy.  I am just trying to do some astronomy outreach.

The tube is bent near the focuser, but the focuser seems ok after I removed it.  But when it is in the tube it does not work.  The mirrors appear to be ok. Could the tube be straightened?  If so how?

I am open to any parts and pieces or advice.

Thanks.

That seems to be akin to auto-body type work.  I'd use a medium-size brass ball-peen hammer, the ball-end of same, on top of a length of a 2x10 or 2x12.

You also have the option to contact Celestron.  Don't call them, however, e-mail them, and include the photos and what you've written here.  They might just send you a new tube.

Oh, do include your name, and particularly your full address, within the e-mail.

+1 on Sky Muse's suggestion. Amazon has some pretty inexpensive "auto body tool kits." Best of luck to you and your project! waytogo.gif

If a DIY project, you don't want to do this...
