you spend many nights out in the cold and wrecking yourself for the next day, and often review your results the following day to realise they're often really suboptimal.  kinda like golf.  most of us spend most of our time chasing the ball around the rough and apologising for slowing the group down... but occasionally it works out and it blows your mind at how good it can be, and this one success out of so, so many failures is all the fuel you seem to need to keep punching in the hours.

4 months in.  extremely happy at long last with the results.  so much learning, very rewarding and thanks to those on here that helped out with their knowledge.

I can control my golf ball much better than my gradients.

This may or may not be a good thing, depending on perspective.

really?  you must have one of those really nice taylormade drivers :)

on gradients, two suggestions.  1) gradient exterminator.  if you dont wanna spend the cash, 2) in photoshop, duplicate image.  apply the duplicate straight back to the original using 'multiply' blending method.  you may have to up the exposure a bit so it doesnt clip the blacks.
