Hi, 

 

I have done some basic deep sky imaging using my old EOS7D and the canon 70-200 f2.8 lens and it worked out so far.

 

I also have a ZWO ASI224mc and a ASI178m for solar and lunar photography that I use with my scope.

 

Would it be better (quality / sensor sensitivity) if I hook up the 70-200 with the ASI224mc? Or is my old DSLR better?

I have no idea what features I need to compare between the 7D and ASI224 to come to a conclusion.

The biggest difference is having a wider field using the DSLR. I suggest using an online FOV calculator. You can simulate this by adding the equipment in Stellarium or SkySafari to see the difference on a variety of sky subjects you may be interested to image. Other differences are in the resulting image, as you have a lot more pixels when using the DSLR. Also, calculate the pixel scales with both setups and see how close they match your local conditions.

Hey, I do see a lot of people mentioning the pixels size and adjusting your f ratio to it, But I never understood that.
In my mind I think of pixels as your resolution. The smaller te better, the more the larger your image... or is this wrong?

 

I've 3D printed an adapter for the ZWO and my Canon lens so I will just go out in the field and give it a shot!
