What would be your more compact choice instead of a 16 inch Dob?

A lower focal ratio 16" Dob would be my choice. I fairly recently went from a 16" f4.49 Dob to a 12.5" f4.7 Dob as my primary instrument, both premium class instruments with CZO primaries and hi-spec accessories. I do now wish I had gone with either an f3.3 16" or f3 20" instead, but I'd rather be 40 than 70 too. There really is no substitute for aperture. In my experience that very definitely includes observe-by-wire options. I find them essentially unsatisfying.
