Hi

I am trying to connect my LXD75 to my computer. No success at all. I have tried all the drivers but with no luck. I bought a Meade 505 cable from Amazon, CP2102 a USB to RJ connector. As soon as I plug it in I got an indication of error in Device manager, a little warning triangle on the cable. Does anyone get the same error with a working cable, or is mine defect?

Appreciate all help.

Lasse

The first one I got from Amazon didn't work, and Amazon return date had long expired. so I got this one: (see post #31 in this topic https://www.cloudyni...entry10404702).

You might want to read some of the other posrt in this topic also.

good luck

Thanks Gary for replying. I am not sure if it is the cable. I just found out that some drivers do not work that good in 64-bit. I got that both in my main computer and my laptop. So I'll reinstall 32-bit in the laptop and then we can check if the cable works. If it doesn't I know what to do. Thanks :)

If you are running Windows 10 like I am, the problem is the serial cable.  I had some old style (DB9) cables that I could not get to work so I went to eBay and bought this:  MiCondora 507 Control Cable for Meade LX200 Series Telescope LX200 ACF & LX200R.

It is based on an FTDI and it works like a charm.

Thanks for your reply Cliff. I have tried everything possible on two computers and 4 different versions of OS (win10 and 7 in both 32 and 64) and it seems like nothing works. The only thing left is the cable. The 507 cable is for LX200, but that seems to work well on LXD75 too?  FTDI is a better chipset I believe.  Thanks Lasse

IIIRC the #505 has a 4-pin-wide RJ plug for the socket in the Autostar 497 handset

So it will fit the 6-pin-wide LX200GPS RS232 port if carefully inserted, but it's not very secure.

Vice-versa, the #507 RJ plug is too wide to fit in the Autostar 497 handset.

Silicon Labs list CP2102 drivers for all flavours of Windows and iOS, but you may have a dodgy Chinese clone.

I did not notice it was a wider RJ, but now when you mention it. It looks like I got one of those cheap cables. It's hard to tell weather it's good or bad, so a lot of time wasted. But hopefully a working control in the end :)   Cheers  Lasse

IMHO, FTDI is a much better device than to older CP2110.

A while back there was a major update to Windows 10 that uses a "universal" driver for USB to serial stuff (AKA Virtual Serial Port or VCP).  To get a CP2110 to work you had to "roll back"  from the "new" Windows 10 universal driver to a version 6.x driver.  I had been using FTDIs for programming external OSD (On screen Data) devices for my drones, and when I  saw this eBay 505 cable uses an FTDI I knew it would work and I also know I would not have to go on a driver hunt.

The cable I have is literally plug and play.

Thanks Cliff, I'll look into that. It could well solve the problem, but I doubt it with the cheap CP chipset. But you never know.  Thanks /Lasse
