With Moonlite having discontinued their manual focusers, and SI in some seeming disarray, what are we left with for upgrades and alternatives in aftermarket focusers, particuarly rack & pinion?

Chinese Crayfords can be of variable quality, but there seem few r&p focusers generally. Buying a scope with a good OE focuser seems more important than before, especially pre-owned.

Adapters & inner diameter sizes are limited as well, what you might want, might not fit your scope. Larger heavy optics or imaging kit also limits available choices. What might fit might flop.

GSO, JMI, S-W & Baader Steetrack are makes I see most. FT on longer than ever order now.

Any others?

Plenty of brands and some of the models do overlap, but rack-and-pinion designs are also available from:

Stellarvue

Long Perng

TS

Bresser

Astro-Physics

APM
Explore Scientific

Other sellers have Feather Touch models in stock (or they so indicate, anyhow).  APM and TS are two.  I'm sure there are others.

To me, it seems there are more higher-end rack-and-pinion focusers available now, in 2021, than there were in <insert year here>.

Best wishes.

Dan
