Canon unmodified t2i

First thing, I know the stars are pretty bad. Why do they look like little ghost? Is it the lens, tracking, camera or lens settings? To get them this small I downloaded a trial of APP and used the star reducer in the beta version. It looks like there are star artifacts in the image. But I think I need to solve my hardware problems before I try to improve my processing. Thanks for any and all advice.

Very nice picture!!!!    As for your stars,  Not 100% sure, but tracking maybe.     If this is the first round, can't wait for round 2.   By the way, is it a 12 or 15 round venture??   Just kidding.     Joe

I increased some on the saturation and I see what you mean. Ghost might not have been the correct word to describe my stars. Here is a blowup of them before processing.

Off to a great start! Stars are very hard on camera lenses.

Very cool for your first attempt on this target.. There are dust lanes that you could get with more time and rotating the camera to fit the galaxy straight across your FOV.. If you don't already have one you can download the Bahtinov mask creator tool and make one out of thin vinyl or if you know someone with a 3D printer so your focus can be as good as you can get it on the cheap..

Aside from the star trailing, you're also out of focus a bit.  It's hard to get super-precise focus with a camera lens and doing it manually, so don't feel bad!

It's a really nice image given the equipment.  Keep at it!

Thanks for the comments. I use a bahtinov mask on the lens, but you are right. with the vibration from trying to focus it is a real pita to get it perfect. Next time I am going to try the lens control in APT to see if I can get it better.
