I started on this 2 weeks ago. It will be 8x12 with a warm room and only half of the roof will retract. So far so good.

Ran into solid rock. So, instead of fighting it, I used it. I drilled into the rock around 15 times, 16" deep at different  angles and then inserted my rebar.

Long day. The wife and I poured 10 yards of concrete on Friday. My body definitely feels it.

Today we started framing. Looks good so far. Ran out of 2x4's  but hoping tomorrow to have it sided and half the roof on.

Good luck with the build! Is the trailer where you are storing supplies? How far is this site from your house?

Yes, I do have a trailer where I have the supplies, but what you think is a trailer is actually a 45' cargo container. My house is about 100 feet from the observatory.

Today did a little more framing, got one roof about done, put in insulation in the roof, installed the outside door,  put on the siding and ran the electrical wire.

Got a little more done. Roof support is up and tracks  are installed. Next will be the second roof.

Made some more progress. Movable roof is on, sheet metal is on the roof, painted and insulated.

Still need to sheet the interior walls, finish the wiring,  put in the counter, install some seals, and finish some trim.

I got the OSB installed on the inside, wired everything,  and installed the counter and cabinet. Just about done.

Thanks for sharing.  I admire anyone who actually takes the time to document and share their build.  Kudos to you!   waytogo.gif

Isn't it amazing that we feel so passionate about our avocation that we build our observatories equipped well enough to live in?

I think it is all about comfort. I did the sitting outside thing many times, but when the temps get down to 50F at night after being 90F+ during the day, I was very uncomfortable not being use to those temps. I also did very little during the winter like one time as I live where we get plenty of snow and never see above freezing temperatures for 4-5 months. Now if I only had a toilet and cot, I would never have to leave.

Made some more head way today. Router, internet  switch,  seals  and LED lights installed. Tomorrow hoping to get the mount built and connected to the pier and possibly the opener for the roof installed.

How I envy those of you with all of that build space. Nice build!
