Okay Ill bite any truth to this statement? I cant find anything on the TV website. If so this would be a sad passing of an awesome eyepiece.

Seems to be true. I'll admit I had a brief panic attack... but checked my eyepiece vault (just past the van Goghs but before the wine cellar) and find mine there, right where Igora stowed it after I examined NGC4565B' with the 36-incher. I had Jeeves give it to the Scullery Maid Awblimeya to polish. In conclusion: I got mine... so it will now become more valuable because other collective advanced observers remain paincky. Tom

I have bought and re-sold this eyepiece more than a few times over the years. I have one now but I also have the ethos 17mm. I keep coming back to the nagler due to the smaller size of it vs. the 17 mm ethos. I wish the 17 mm ethos was the same size as the nagler and it wouldn’t be such a struggle on which one to keep.

I'll help you.
Compare overall contrast in the field.
Look for brightening at the edge of the field.
Compare tightness of star images in the outer 10%.
And compare the color of red-tinted stars in each.
To my eye, in all 4 cases the Ethos is superior.

If the 17T4 had the same eye relief as the 22T4, I would have kept it. But both the Ethos and the Nagler are too tight for comfort, so I let them go and have been happy using the 17.3 Delos.
Now I plan to see if the 17.5 Morpheus can "scratch my itch" for something with a slightly wider FOV.
Cheers,
Ron

Be advised the 17.5 Morpheus is only 74 AFOV, not 76. Might not feel very different than your 72 AFOV Delos. If the 17T4 had the same eye relief as the 22T4, I would have kept it. But both the Ethos and the Nagler are too tight for comfort, so I let them go and have been happy using the 17.3 Delos.

What am I missing? The 17.5mm Morpheus has field stop of 23.55mm. That puts it at approximately a 78o AFOV.
I had the 17 Nagler, 17.5 Morpheus and 17 Ethos all at once. The Nagler and Ethos are both gone. The 17 Ethos was just too wide for me. I didn’t like rotating my head and eyeball around to see the edges. The Nagler and Morpheus performed about equally to my eye so I kept the cheaper, smaller and lighter Morpheus.

What you're missing is the Baader 23.55mm figure was for the first prototype that never got made.
Production eyepieces have a 21.7mm field stop.

Thanks.
It would probably be helpful if Agena and Highpoint (and others) updated their description and specifications.

Ron, you will find the 17.5mm so easy to use, and great optically, a real pleasure.

I've used a friend's 17mm Nagler T4 a number of times over the years and liked the eyepiece quite a bit. A few years ago I almost bought a used 17mm Nagler T4 at a star party but decided that I really didn't need it. However, I did buy a 17.3mm Delos at the NEAF in 2019 and have enjoyed using it with my telescopes with 1.25" focusers in particular. It works quite well with my 6" f/10 Celestron NexStar Evolution SCT.

TeleVue still has the 17mm Ethos and 17.3mm Delos in the lineup.
And the 16mm Nagler for those not needing longer eye relief.

16T5 was the sharpest Nagler made, to my eyes. I only let it go when converting all my Naglers to Delos

I always enjoy viewing with the 17T4 whenever I get to look through someone else's, but prefer the 16T5 because it is sharper and has a smaller form factor, which is a plus in my smaller scopes.

Appreciate the heads-up on the 17T4 going away. I managed to snag one despite the local dealer unable to secure me one. I also prefer the 16T5 but I'm putting together a 2" set for my 12" Dob and I'm electing to save a couple of bucks by getting the 17T4 instead of the Ethos.

A few years ago I compared the two, trying to convince myself that buying the Ethos was worth it. That was my "old little" 29-inch F/4.5 Dobsonian with Paracorr, delivering 225x and 3.75mm pupil = bright, good mag, immersive. Back and forth and back again on deep sky targets under superior conditions. I loved both and concluded that (and entered in my journal!) that I prefer the Ethos --- but still love both. I ~grew up~ on the Naglers, ever since Al released the original 13mm game changer. My most-used eyepiece ever, and then the dreamy 20mm T2. In that sense, I was actually surprised that I did indeed prefer the Ethos, definitely... but not by much. The Naglers' 82o field is generous enough and more comfortable for me; the Ethos almost too much of a good thing --- but side by side --- the Ethos won... and still does... but I'll never part with my trusty old Nagler! I bought my first (and only) Ethos circa 2008. Compared to the 17 Nagler, it was definitely sharper and more contrasty. Even the non-astronomy girlfriend noticed the differences with no prompting or leading questions. You can data-mine my posts from the period to see that.
Shortly thereafter I sold the 17 (and 12) T4’s. I regretted that move almost as shortly thereafter.
Why? While the Ethos coatings, glass, polish (take your pick) beat my older T4’s, I concluded my preference was the 70 (and perhaps 80) degree class of eyepieces. YMMV of course, but in my case after a few seasons I realized the 100 degree Emperor had no clothes.
The T4’s (can the 22 be far behind?) will live on in the Classifieds for decades. So I would not be worried about obtaining one, should the need for nostalgia resurface. But realistically I have moved on from that.

Same here. All I used to care about was afov, and quality edges. After a few years with a giant 100 deg afov, I grew tired of it. Now my favorite is between 70-82 deg afov.

First Light Optics in the UK lists the price of the new Nagler type-7 as £0.00. I think I'll buy all four at that price!
