Hi Astronomers smile.gif

I am planning to build an observatory.
Telescope is a C14 on CGX-L. It is controlled by NINA, and the dome should also be controlled by NINA.
The dome should have a gap, which of course has to follow the scope (NexDome, ExploraDome...).
General question: Does NINA know which side the telescope is on (Side of Pier)?
How should I best approach the project?

Many thanks in advance! smile.gif

Chris

Yes, NINA will know which side of the pier the scope is on.  You will have to tell it (one time only) the exact dimensions of your scope/mount combination relative to the centre of the dome.  Obviously, you won't know those until after the dome is installed and the scope is mounted on the pier.  Using that information, it will be able to calculate the dome azimuth necessary to place the slot in front of the scope.

Any recommendations for a dome maybe also available here?

I am happy with my 8' Exploradome.  I can mount my C-11 in it with no problem.  A C-14 will fit, but it might be getting a bit cozy.

Hi Chris, I am the contributor who implemented the dome support on NINA. Come find me in Discord if you run into issues or have questions as you set up.

Good luck on your obsy build!

Thats a very nice offer, thank you so much.

What components I need, for example if I use a Nexdome like you?

- Rotation kit

- Shutter motor kit

- And then how to connect to NINA?

Chris

All you'll need to do is install the ASCOM driver and software it comes with. You can find the instructions here: https://www.nexdome.com/resources

I have the full Nexdome automation kit and use NINA for my sessions. It's great. Fully automated from start to finish.
