Has anyone tired using an Edge HD 11 or 9.25 with their designated 0.7 focal reducers for visual?

I'm thinking on making the switch from my XLT to one of the Edge models, because the idea of using a large Focal reducers with my 100 deg eyepieces with the reducer in place sounds appealing. Also, when using a binoviewer.

Has anyone tried this and if so, can you comment on how the 2" eyepieces or binoviewer work with this combination.

Thanks in advance for any comments.

I used the .7 reducer on my 9.25 Edge visually when first got it. It was just fine with the 35 Panoptic and also my NV device with the TV 55mm Plossl. I didn't try the binoviewer at the time.

Ralph,

This has been discussed a few times here on CN. You can read a couple of the prior threads linked below.

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/590355-visual-with-7x-focal-reducer-on-edgehd/

https://www.cloudynights.com/topic/651039-edgehd-f7-reducer-for-visual/

I have used my own EdgeHD 11" with EdgeHD 0.7x reducer visually quite a few times. I really like the results.

John

I use the .63 ( https://www.celestro...ducer-corrector ) with my 9.25 and I have no problem. Did not try binoviewer either.

You don't need the extra expense of an Edge for Visual.

Any reason why the Edge? I'm planning my next scope and either a u210 or C11 of some flavour. Interested on your thoughts of the Edge versus standard C11. Flatters stars at the corners with the Edge HD but what about cool down as the corrector lens is sealing the central tube?

Also the flattener is going to move the focus point, so I can imagine incompatible with BV usage.

You seal the tube by cover or diagonal anyhow, since you do not want any dirt or dust inside your scope. This would be my last concern in such decision.

Yeah, I'm only interested in the Edge 9.25 or 11 because I'd like to use the focal reduction  with my large 100 degree eyepieces and I can't do that with the tiny 0.63 ficL reducers of the XLT models. The Edge 9.25 and 11 SCT's both have the 3.25" openings for these larger Focal reducers.

Its gotta be the Edge SCT's and the cost of the 0.7 reducer doesn't mater.

I dont care where the focal point is moved to, I'd  just like to have a C11 with a new focal length of 1960mm or a C9.25 with a focal length of 1610mm so I can still have the aperture but I can go wider with my large 2" eyepieces with no vignetting.

This is why visual users purchase the 0.7 focal reducer.

Any idea at what field stop of an EP the need for the edge reducer is required? For instance TeleVue 55 mm has a field stop of 44 mm, this is quite a large field stop and I’d expect the Edge HD to be best choice. Why the Televue 55 mm, it’s used in NV with an adapter to connect the intensifier.

you have to think of vignetting either way, with the .7 reducer or the .63 reducer.

im using the .63 reducer with a c9.25 xlt with 100° 2" eyepieces up to a fieldstop of 27mm (ethos 17mm). bigger and the vignetting will be too much for my liking.

but the fieldquality is almost similar with the edge or non-edge version using the reducer/corrector or reducer of the edge. you just save a lot of money sticking to the non edge version because you dont need bigger eyepieces for to reach the maximum field. also the xlt version is cheaper of course than the edge version.

Anything related to the 0.63 focal reducer doesn't apply to this thread.

Vignetting of the 0.7x focal reducer for the C11 is non existent, even when using my 31 Nagler since the F-Stop of the 0.7 focal reducer is larger then the largest 2" eyepiece F-Stop that I have.

Thanks for everyone who's responded to this thread, who owns the 0.7 focal reducers with 2" eyepieces. Looks like it works just fine.

hm imteresting..

yes, the f-stop of the reducer might be bigger, doesnt mean it wont vignette with such eyepieces like the 31 nagler..

i would be surprised if it worked.

edit: ok, i see its a way bigger fieldstop then the xlt design.. youre right
