IC 1396A Elephant's Trunk Nebula and I are not the best of friends. What a difficult target to process. Being in higher Bortle, moon and low quality skies didn't help either frown.gif  But this year is SO low on relative clear skies here, that I take every opportunity.

Despite 7 hours of data (captured during 5 nights in September), it was so difficult to process. I ended up with splitting up Ha and OIII data in SiriL from the Optolong L-eXtreme data, synthesizing the Green channel in Photoshop to make RGB and using the broadband data as Luminance.

All this also with the use of StarNet++ to keep a bit of control of the "bloated" stars.

My main goal was to get a bit of detail of the reflection part showing in the upper dark part and it's showing ... somewhat. But only with a relative high amount of stretching. Hence the not so "clean" overall look. Still: satisfied, so worthy for sharing smile.gif

Bortle 6/7
Meade LX200 8" f/10 ACF OTA
Ioptron CEM25EC mount (no guiding)
Optolong L-eXtreme filter
Baader Neodymium Skyglow filter
Zwo ASI071MC Pro camera

Captured with SharpCap Pro @ -10 Celsius / White balance R50 B50
Optolong filter: 34 x 600 sec / Gain 200 / Offset 10
Baader filter: 55 x 90 sec / Gain 90 / Offset 4
20 x darks, 50x flats and 50x darkflats

Stacked with DeepSkyStacker

SiriL and Photoshop
Siril: split Ha and OIII, Crop en Histogram Transformation
Photoshop: used the Baader capture as Luminance layer on the Optolong data.
Levels, Curves, Camera Raw Filter (blacks, clarity, sharpening, color, noise reduction).
Reduction from 5000 to 2200px (1600px for CN)

Looking very good to me Menno,

That reflection part is very hard to get well under not optimal

sky conditions!

Some time ago ( 2019 ) I did almost the same framing with my

OSC camera and a UVIR filter from a dark site but it

doesn't show well either

FWIW here was that trial: http://lammertus.epi...muredenoise.jpg

Some day I might try again.

Stay well,

Mert
