I've about had it with this thing. It works, so I'm going to sell it and hope that I can recoup my investment.
The images just aren't as bright as I want them to be. Sucks.

Can I suggest you do the honest thing - and dispose of it as trash - where it belongs.
The corrector is stuffed in any case and a replacement costs more than the scope is worth.

Anyone know if the optics upgrade is worth it?
I'm in too deep at this point in terms of investment.
I'd be saving $700 on a new ACF.

If the scope was given to you and you can’t make it work why not just post it in the classifieds as “for parts only” and move on? I would not explore other options like recoating or replacing parts at this point.

I'd suggest finding someone who can do simple tests before giving up on it. And certainly before replacing parts without knowing what's wrong.

I'd give it away to the guy that has the mount in my club.
The issue is that I kinda want the money back for the rings, dovetail, dew shield, visual back and protective case I bought. Idk how much I could get back for this stuff. I invested $200 in this stuff.
The dovetail is modded for this particular scope.

Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that the issue is just the 1980s quality coatings.
Images are only an issue when observing globs. it looked weird for the planets too, but the collimation was slightly off and I'm not waiting until early morning for that. When the planets are out at a decent hour, I'll check.

So I compared this scope to a functioning Meade 2080 and the images were identical.
It seems the scope is fine, the problem was collimation and that I was expecting too much from an 8 inch scope.
Now that I know the scope is fine, I'm very happy with it.
